New Delhi, March 8 (). The Government of India is continuously monitoring the developing situation in West Asia and the Gulf region, particularly with regard to the welfare of Indian nationals who are stranded there while in transit or on short-term visits.
All Indian nationals in the area are advised to follow the guidelines of local authorities as well as advisories being issued by the Indian Embassy or Consulate at their location. Each of our Embassies and Consulates in these countries have issued detailed advisories and set up 24×7 helplines to assist in addressing concerns due to the current situation.
The Ministry of External Affairs has also set up a dedicated special control room to monitor and answer queries from the affected people and their families.
Following partial opening of airspace in the region over the past few days, Indian and foreign airlines have been operating commercial flights, including non-scheduled flights, to ensure the return of Indian passengers who were in transit or on short-term visits to these countries. So far, more than 52,000 Indians have availed these flights and traveled safely from the Gulf region to India between March 1 and 7, 2026, of which 32,107 have traveled by Indian Airlines. There are plans to launch more flights in the coming days.
In countries where commercial flights are not available, Indian citizens are advised to contact the concerned Embassy/Consulate for information and advice on the nearest available commercial flight options.
The safety and welfare of Indian nationals abroad is the Government’s top priority, and the Government continues to collaborate with governments across the region to provide assistance to those in need.
