Big information has come to light for Indians stranded in Kuwait due to closure of existing airspace and security reasons. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has officially started collecting data of Indians who came on family visit visa and are stranded here. Along with this, Kuwait’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MoI) has also announced to give one month extension without any fee to the people whose visa expires.
Why did the Embassy start data collection?
Due to closure of Kuwait’s airspace and halt of air services, many Indians who had come on family visit visa are unable to return. To help such people, the Community Affairs Department of the Indian Embassy is collecting data. The Embassy is in constant touch with Kuwait authorities and airlines to make arrangements for the return of the people. Officials have appealed to the stranded Indians to provide their details on the official link so that they can be included in the travel list.
What is the new rule on visa extension and fees?
In a relief to the stranded people, the Kuwait government has automatically extended all types of visit visas (family, tourist and commercial) for 1 month. This facility will be considered applicable from 28 February 2026. For this no one needs to go to the Residency Department. This extension will be done automatically through electronic system. Apart from this, all fines and fees imposed on visa overstay have been completely waived during this period. This process is completely free.
What is the update for residents?
The government has also taken steps for those Indians who hold valid residency permits of Kuwait but are currently stranded outside the country. Such people have been automatically given an additional 3 months by the system so that their visas are not cancelled. Kuwait Airways and India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) are also monitoring the situation. Officials have asked the general public to ignore rumors on social media and only follow official information.
