Washington. Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been wounded and the country’s military leadership structure is struggling amid US attacks, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Friday.
At a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth said Iran’s leadership is under increasing pressure as the military campaign continues. Iran’s leadership is no longer in a better condition, they are desperate and in hiding. The newly appointed leader issued a written statement calling for unity, but did not appear in public, Hegseth said. “We know that the new so-called Supreme Leader is injured and possibly deformed.”
The Defense Secretary questioned why the leader did not speak directly to the country when he had the communication tools available. Iran has a lot of cameras and recorders. Then why written statement? I think you know why.
“They’re scared. They’re hurt. They’re on the run and they haven’t got legitimacy,” Hegseth said.
Hegseth said that as the conflict intensifies, Iran’s leadership structure is becoming unstable.
Hegseth argued that the attacks have severely weakened Iran’s armed forces and disrupted the country’s military command structure.
Hegseth said that his regime’s military capabilities were collapsing. They can barely communicate, let alone coordinate. Iranian leaders have gone underground and are trying to escape. Iran’s leaders are hiding in bunkers and moving into civilian areas.
The Pentagon has repeatedly said the military campaign aims to destroy Iran’s missile capabilities, weaken its naval power and prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
