The 7-seater version of the new Renault Duster will be launched in India in the next financial year and both will likely have the same engine options.
Renault is preparing to launch many new SUVs in the Indian market. The company will launch the new Duster SUV in India on March 17. The company also recently teased a small SUV through the Renault Bridger Concept, which will be positioned below the Renault Duster and is confirmed to be launched by the end of 2027. A new 7-seater SUV from Renault has recently been spotted testing in India.
This indicates that the company is preparing to launch its upcoming 7-seater SUV in the next financial year. This test prototype looks very similar to the Dacia Bigster available in the international market. The company has already confirmed that a 7-seater SUV based on the new platform of Renault Duster will be launched in India. The model seen during testing has been completely covered and this shows that work is going on at a fast pace on this project.
Although most of the vehicle is covered, its lighting signature and overall design suggest that this SUV may be inspired by the Bigster. At present there is no clear information regarding its name for the Indian market. In the global market, a model named Renault Boreal has also been developed based on Bigster, which is being sold under the Renault brand in some regions. In such a situation, this SUV coming to India can be launched with Boreal, Bigster or some completely new name.
Renault Boreal
Earlier this year, Renault had introduced the new Duster globally and its prices are going to be announced soon. Like the 5-seater Duster, this large 7-seater SUV will also be based on the company’s modular platform and will share many mechanical components. Although it may look similar to the global Bigster in design, some different styling elements may also be seen in the Indian version, as seen in the case of the new Duster.
Talking about the engine, the Renault Boreal introduced in the Latin American market has a 1.3-litre TCe turbo petrol engine. This engine is available in both petrol and flex-fuel options in different markets. The petrol version produces a power of around 156 hp, while in the flex-fuel version this figure reaches 163 hp. In some markets its torque is said to be around 270 Nm.

The bigger Duster coming to India is also expected to get a similar engine lineup. It may be powered by a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine, which will produce around 163 hp and 280 Nm of torque and may be offered with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Apart from this, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with around 100 hp can also be found in the entry-level variant, while the possibility of a 1.8-litre strong hybrid petrol engine cannot be ruled out.
