New Delhi/Kathmandu, March 19 (IANS). The emerging power of Genji in Nepal has brought a historic change in the politics of the country. According to a report, the recent election results have proved all the predictions wrong, where the popularity of Balen Shah and his party Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) changed the political equation by securing almost two-thirds majority.

The report said that since the establishment of democracy in 2008, Nepal’s politics has been dominated by traditional parties Nepali Congress, Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) and Nepal Communist Party (UML). Their prominent leaders included Sher Bahadur Deuba, Pushp Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) and K. P. Sharma Oli has been involved.

According to the report, Balendra Shah (Balen) is known as an engineer and rapper. He entered politics by winning the Kathmandu Mayor election in 2022 as an independent candidate. With just three years of experience and without any political family or strong party backup, he created history as the prime ministerial candidate in the recent elections and is on track to become the youngest Prime Minister.

The report said such a mandate in a country with ethnic, regional and religious divisions shows that issue-based politics can unite people.

It was also pointed out that till now no party had been able to achieve a clear majority in Nepal and political instability remained due to coalition governments. But this tradition seems to be breaking with this mandate.

According to the report, with this result the opposition will now be forced to play the role of opposition and bargaining to form the government may end.

The report also said that this transformation of Nepal is attracting attention across South Asia. Changes have already been seen in countries like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, while such political waves can also be seen in countries like Pakistan and Maldives.
