Delhi Budget 2026: ‘Green Budget’ of Rs 1.03 lakh crore presented, special focus on environment

New Delhi, March 24 (IANS). Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, while presenting the budget for the financial year 2026-27 in the Assembly on Tuesday, made several big announcements for the development of the capital. This time the government presented a budget of Rs 1 lakh 3 thousand 700 crore, which is said to be much bigger than last year.

CM Rekha Gupta said in her address that this budget has been prepared as a ‘Green Budget’ keeping in mind the needs of the people. He said that every plan and policy of this budget has included the concern for environmental protection and future generations. Under this, 21 percent of the total budget has been earmarked for the environment.

Giving information about the sources of revenue, the Chief Minister said that Rs 900 crore will come from non-tax revenue, while Rs 591 crore will come from the Central Road Fund. Apart from this, around Rs 2,500 crore is expected to be received from the Central Government under various government schemes. He also said that 70.3 percent of the total budget has been kept for revenue expenditure.

This time a big provision has been made for Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD). The Chief Minister said that for the first time an amount of Rs 11,666 crore is being given to MCD.

Infrastructure and urban development have also been given priority in the budget. Rs 5,921 crore has been allocated for the Public Works Department (PWD). Apart from this, a provision of Rs 7,887 crore has been made for urban development, Rs 300 crore for Yamunanagar, Rs 800 crore for slum development, Rs 787 crore for rural development and Rs 914 crore for the development department.

The Chief Minister said that special attention will be given to the development of roads under PWD. The department has been given a target to complete 7,000 km of roads with brick and concrete construction, on which Rs 1,392 crore will be spent. Additionally, Rs 350 crore has been set aside for the development of MLAs’ areas.

A provision of Rs 186 crore has also been made for NDMC and Delhi Cantonment area.
