Ahead of the state assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with West Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari and BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya, released the BJP’s “charge sheet” against the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in Kolkata.

Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Shah stressed that the upcoming elections in Bengal will be a choice between “fear and faith”. He criticized Mamata Banerjee’s leadership and accused her of promoting politics of lies, violence and corruption in the last 15 years.

Let us tell you that elections will be held in the state in two phases, on April 23 and April 29, and the counting of votes for both the phases is scheduled on May 4.

Shah said, “In the upcoming elections, Bengal will have to choose between fear and trust. Politics of fear and corruption has been going on for the last 15 years. Mamata Banerjee has created a new way of politics by using lies and violence. The basis of TMC coming to power is lies, fear and violence. But since 2011, BJP has been fighting against it, and I am confident that this time BJP will form the government in Bengal.”

He said, “In today’s press conference, we have brought a charge sheet against the 15 years of rule of the TMC government. This charge sheet has been filed on behalf of the people of Bengal against the Mamata Banerjee government, which the BJP is also raising. In a way, the people of Bengal have to decide in the coming elections whether they should choose fear or faith.”

Shah expressed confidence that despite these tactics, the BJP, which has been opposing such practices since 2011, will form the next government in Bengal. He also praised Suvendu Adhikari for his extensive tour of the state and discussing key issues.

He said, “Elections have been announced in Bengal. Under the leadership of our state president, all the BJP workers have descended on Bengal with the resolve to form the BJP government. This election of Bengal is also extremely important for national security. The security of the entire eastern region is linked to Bengal. After the formation of the BJP government in Assam, infiltration has almost ended. Now there is only one way left for infiltrators to enter the entire country, and that is Bengal.”

He said, “Our opposition leader Shri Suvendu Adhikari ji also toured the whole of Bengal before the elections and conveyed to every person the issues of disorder, anarchy, economic crisis and especially infiltration prevailing in Bengal.”

He criticized TMC for failing to fulfill the promise of “Sonar Bangla”, making Bengal a hub of criminal gangs and hampering industrial development, which he described as a “graveyard of industry”.

He said, “This chargesheet is a compilation of 15 years of dark deeds of the TMC government. This is the story of a regime which established the rule of gangs by showing the dream of ‘Sonar Bangla’ and exploiting the people of Bengal. Under the misgovernance of TMC, Bengal has become a laboratory of corruption. Criminal gangs are torturing the people from top to bottom. In the absence of development, Bengal has, in a way, become a graveyard of industries.”
