Due to the recent increase in air cargo costs, India’s leading e-commerce companies—such as Amazon and Flipkart—may increase their ‘Express Delivery’ prices by 20–30 percent. The biggest impact of this increase will be on those products which are transported to warehouses by air routes. These mainly include mobile phones, laptops, branded clothes and electronics.
In view of this situation, customers are advised not to wait for Diwali or other big festivals to make their purchases. Buying essential electronics and accessories now can result in savings ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000. This strategy may prove particularly beneficial for items that are airlifted to warehouses across the country.
Rising ATF prices are increasing delivery costs
The main reasons for this surge in air cargo costs are rising prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) and fluctuations in the international market. Pressure on international supply chains and changes in restrictions on air routes are also contributing to this increase. Experts estimate that customers may see an indirect increase of 3–5 percent in the prices of these goods.
Shop early to save
Experts recommend that customers prepare a list of their essential items in advance and complete their shopping before the big festivals start. This approach not only helps in avoiding the impact of inflation and rising delivery costs, but also ensures timely availability of goods. Given the potential increase in express delivery prices by e-commerce companies—and the impact it could have on the prices of air-shipped electronics—buying early is the easiest way to save money.
