Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has taken another big step towards making Saudi Arabia the world’s largest logistics hub. New shipping services have now been launched to directly connect Jeddah Islamic Port to 12 regional and international ports. This announcement has been made on 2 April 2026. The main objective of this initiative is to rapidly achieve the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Vision 2030.
👉: Big statement by GCC Secretary, there will be no compromise on the security of Gulf countries, expressed strong displeasure over Iran’s attacks.
Jeddah port will be directly connected with these 12 ports
Through new services, Jeddah Port is now connected to many major trading centers in Asia and Africa. It also includes India’s two largest ports, Nhava Sheva and Mundra. This will accelerate maritime trade and movement of goods will become much easier. The table below gives the names of all the main ports to which Jeddah is connected.
Country Port Name China Kingston, Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha, Shekou India Nhava Sheva, Mundra Singapore Singapore Egypt Sokhna Jordan Aqaba Djibouti Somalia Berbera
What are the new opportunities for trade and shipping companies?
Big shipping companies like Pacific International Lines (PIL) are playing a key role in this decision of the Saudi government. Apart from this, companies like Maersk, Global Feeder Shipping and CMA CGM are also expanding their services at Jeddah Port. Jeddah Islamic Port is a very important part of the Red Sea with 62 multi-purpose berths and a capacity to handle up to 130 million tonnes of cargo.
This is very good news for traders sending goods from India to Saudi Arabia or importing from there. Having direct shipping service will reduce the time for goods to arrive and is expected to reduce costs as well. This is a big advantage from the business point of view for Indian expatriates and businessmen living in Gulf countries because now doing business between India and Saudi will be more accessible than before.
