Chandigarh. An important proceeding took place in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Saturday in the ongoing sexual harassment case against former Haryana Sports Minister Sandeep Singh. The junior women’s hockey coach (victim) recorded her statement before the court and identified important evidence related to the case. Court proceedings: The victim remained firm on her statement. According to the victim’s lawyer Sameer Sethi, the process of ‘Examination-in-Chief’ (main trial) has been successfully completed on Saturday.
Identification of evidence: During the hearing, the victim identified her clothes and mobile phone, which were handed over to the police during the investigation, as case property.
Persistence: The victim stood firm on her initial allegations and statements.
Next step: Preparation for ‘cross examination’ The court has fixed April 18, 2026 for the next hearing of the case. On this day, the process of ‘cross examination’ will begin, in which the defense lawyer will question and answer the victim.
Background of the case: Legal battle continues from December 2022
This controversy started on 26 December 2022 when the junior women coach lodged a complaint with the Chandigarh Police.
Serious allegations: The coach alleges that the then Sports Minister called him to his government residence and behaved rudely with him. According to the allegations, the victim was also transferred for not agreeing.
FIR: Sector-26 police station had registered a case against Sandeep Singh on 31 December 2022 under sections 342, 354, 354A, 354B and 506 of the IPC. This includes serious sections like molestation and criminal intimidation.
Defense argument: “Part of the conspiracy”
On the other hand, Sandeep Singh and his lawyers have completely rejected all these allegations. He argues that this entire matter is a well-planned conspiracy and out of anger over the transfer, he has been implicated in a false case.
Sandeep Singh’s career profile
Sandeep Singh is known as a legendary ‘drag-flicker’ in the history of Indian hockey.
He has been the captain of the Indian team.
In the year 2010 he was honored with the Arjuna Award.
After being elected MLA for the first time, he was given the responsibility of Sports and Youth Affairs Minister in Haryana Government, from which he had to resign after this controversy.
