Chandigarh Security agencies have got a major success in the case of hand grenade attack on Punjab BJP office located in Sector-37, Chandigarh. Chandigarh Police and the Counter Intelligence Wing of Punjab Police have arrested 5 accused in a joint operation. With this action, a major terrorist conspiracy hatched from across the border has been exposed. Preliminary investigation has revealed shockingly that the strings of this attack are directly linked to Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. According to the police, this module was being instructed by handlers sitting in Portugal and Germany. This entire conspiracy was carried out especially on the instructions of Baljot Singh alias Jot, sitting in Portugal. Accused arrested and absconding ‘mastermind’
The five accused arrested by the police include Balwinder Lal alias Shami, Jasveer Singh alias Jassi, Charanjit Singh alias Channi, Rubal Chauhan, Mandeep alias Abhijot Sharma.
However, the two main accused in this attack, Gurtej Singh and Amanpreet Singh, are still out of the reach of the police. Earlier there was talk of his arrest, but the police has clarified that he is currently absconding and special teams are conducting raids in search of him.
Weapons cache recovered: Police have recovered deadly weapons from the accused, which shows the dangerous intent of this module: 1 live hand grenade, 1 Zigana pistol (.30 bore), 10 live cartridges.
‘Cutout’ strategy: Foolproof plan to avoid capture
Investigation revealed that the terrorists had adopted the strategy of ‘cutouts’ and sub-modules. In this system, only limited information is given to every member of the network, so that if one person is caught, he cannot expose the entire network or the main conspirator. A complex ‘supply chain’ was also used for the supply of weapons so that the security agencies could avoid detection.
Coordination with central agencies
Considering the seriousness and international connections of the case, Chandigarh Police is now working in collaboration with central investigating agencies. The main focus of the police is now on catching the absconding accused and identifying other possible targets of this module.
Security Alert: After this revelation, security arrangements have been further tightened in Chandigarh and Punjab. Police are trying to reach the last link of the network through call detail records (CDR) and electronic devices.
