We often assume that how our day goes depends entirely on our luck. However, Vastu Shastra believes that the success of our day depends on how we start our morning. The morning hours are full of positive energy. If we adopt some small, but effective habits immediately after waking up, not only our mind remains calm, but also wealth, prosperity and happiness come to the house.
1. Look at your palms
The first thing you should do upon waking—instead of looking at any other object or person—is to put your palms together and look at them. The scriptures state that Goddess Lakshmi resides in the tips of the fingers, Goddess Saraswati in the middle part of the palms, and Lord Govinda (Vishnu) in the base of the palms. It is considered auspicious to look at your palms first thing in the morning and then gently move them on your face. One should avoid looking at oil vessels or needle and thread in the morning.
2. Salute to the Earth
Before getting down from the bed, one should touch the ground with one’s hand and pay obeisance to Mother Earth. Chanting the name of your family deity is also considered very auspicious. Immediately after waking up, one should avoid taking names of animals like monkey, dog or boar which are considered inauspicious.
3. Benefits of getting up before sunrise
According to Vastu, sleeping late—that is, sleeping long after sunrise—invites poverty into the house and has adverse effects on health. People who wake up before the first rays of the sun burst, naturally absorb life energy (prana shakti). This removes laziness and sharpens the intellect.
4. Sanctity of the main gate
If the women or elders of the house sprinkle some water on the main entrance of the house immediately after waking up, it is considered extremely auspicious. A clean and organized main entrance symbolizes the welcome of Goddess Lakshmi. Make sure that there is no garbage or dirt of any kind near the threshold of the house.
5. Arghya and Yoga to Sun God
After taking bath, offering water (Arghya) to the Sun God from a copper vessel increases your confidence. Additionally, 10–15 minutes of meditation or yoga re-energizes your body.
6. Watering the basil plant
Offering water to the Tulsi plant and circling it helps in calming the conflicts and rifts within the house. Never speak bad about anyone or get angry in the morning. Maintain sweetness in your speech, so that your entire day is pleasant.
