Thrissur, April 22 (IANS). So far 13 people have died in the accident in Mundathicode in Thrissur district of Kerala, while many others are injured. Forensic team, dog squad and fire and rescue department conducted an operation at the spot on Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi and Kerala Revenue Minister K Rajan visited the spot.
Union Minister Suresh Gopi visited the incident site and took stock of the situation. He said chemical and forensic investigation is ongoing. The dog squad is busy identifying the remains left in the debris, so that necessary information can be given to the families of the victims.
He said, “Investigation is going on. The forensic team is present here and the dog squad is also deployed. The dog squad will do its job and they should be allowed to do their job. They have to prepare a report, only then we will be able to get complete information. It is a long process and it will take time. Now is not the time to come to a conclusion about this.”
At the same time, Kerala Revenue Minister K. Rajan and Excise and Parliamentary Affairs Minister MB Rajesh also visited the spot. MB Rajesh said that preliminary data has confirmed the death of many people, while the condition of some injured remains critical. The administration has also set up control rooms to gather information about missing people.
The explosion at the firecracker factory occurred on Tuesday during the preparations for Thrissur Pooram. It is one of the most famous temple festivals of India, in which grand fireworks are organized. After the explosion, a massive fire broke out in the area and smoke spread all around, causing panic among the workers working there and the people nearby. At least 13 people have died in the accident.
