Professor Achyut Potdar of ‘3 Idiots’ passes away, breathed his last at the age of 91

Veteran actor Achyut Potdar, famous for his memorable role of a strict professor in the film ‘3 Idiots’, has passed away. He was 91 years old. The actor breathed his last at Jupiter Hospital in Thane. He was admitted to the hospital due to health related problems. The exact reason for his demise has not been revealed yet. His last rites will be performed today in Thane. At the same time, due to the demise of the veteran actor, there is mourning in the world of Marathi cinema, TV and Bollywood too.

Achyut, who entertained fans with more than 125 movies in his brilliant acting career, got the most fame by playing the role of a professor in superstar Aamir Khan’s blockbuster film 3 Idiots.

Before making his mark in cinema, Achyut Potdar served in the Indian Armed Forces and later also worked in the Indian Oil Company. His passion for acting led him to enter films and television in the 1980s and he had a career spanning more than four decades.

Potdar acted in more than 125 films in Hindi and Marathi cinema. His filmography includes critically acclaimed and commercially successful films like Aakrosh, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyun Aata Hai, Ardh Satya, Tezaab, Parinda, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Dilwale, Rangeela, Vaastav, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Parineeta, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Dabangg 2 and Ventilator.

He became a household name by playing the role of a strict but lovable engineering professor in Rajkumar Hirani’s blockbuster film 3 Idiots. His dialogue “Kehna kya chahte ho…” is very famous on social media, which is still used extensively in social media and memes.

Apart from films, Potdar also worked extensively on television. He appeared in famous shows like ‘Wagle Ki Duniya’, ‘Maja Hoshil Na’, ‘Mrs. Tendulkar’ and ‘Bharat Ki Khoj’. His versatility has helped him move seamlessly between stage, TV and cinema, earning him the respect of the entire industry.
