Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Friday received his first National Award for his stellar performance in the film ‘Jawaan’. This achievement is a symbol of his career spanning more than three decades. He will share the Best Actor award with Vikrant Massey, who won the award for his role in Vidhu Vinod Chopra-directed ’12th Fail’.
The names of the 71st National Film Awards winners were announced at a press conference held at the National Media Centre, New Delhi.
Fans are jumping with joy after Shahrukh and Vikrant were chosen as the Best Actor for the National Film Award.
In January 2023, Shahrukh returned to the big screen after a gap of 4 years with YRF’s ‘Pathan’. The film was a hit at the box office and attracted huge crowds of viewers.
After the blockbuster success of ‘Pathan’, Shahrukh gave fans another blockbuster ‘Jawaan’, which won him his first National Award. Directed by Atlee, ‘Jawaan’ stars Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone, Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra and Riddhi Dogra alongside Shah Rukh.
Earlier, after the success of Jaawaan, the makers had held a press conference in Mumbai, where Shah Rukh expressed his gratitude towards the makers for their love for the film.
Shah Rukh shared, “It’s a celebration. We rarely get a chance to stay with a film for years. Due to Covid and time constraints, the production of Jawan has been going on for four years. There were a lot of people involved in this film, especially people from the South who have migrated to Mumbai and have been living in Mumbai for the last four years and working day and night for this film, which is the hardest work I have done so far.”
‘Jawaan’ was one of the highest-grossing films of 2023. ’12 Fail’ also released a month after the release of Jawan. Vikrant left everyone speechless with his versatile acting skills.
Based on the book by Anurag Pathak, ’12th Fail’ is based on the life of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who overcame extreme poverty to become an IPS officer. The film highlights his journey and the important role his wife, IRS officer Shraddha Joshi, played in helping him reach this milestone.
The film emerged as a word-of-mouth hit by the end of 2023, earning around Rs 60 crore worldwide, at a time when even medium budget films were not getting a theatrical release. With ’12th Fail’ Vikrant undoubtedly reached the heights of fame.
