The essence of sadhana is samadhi. There is everything, there is an end. The conclusion is. There is fruit. Is the reward. the result is. Samadhi is made up of two words – Sam and Dhi. Sam means being equal or similar. Dhi means intelligence or wisdom. Thus, Samadhi means the intellect being at the same level. To be in a state of equality. To be equanimous. To be equanimous. Having a stable mind. One of its meanings is Samay Aadhi i.e. going beyond time. Samadhi is the ultimate state of yoga practice, but remember that Samadhi is not the destination, it is only a stage. The real journey of spirituality begins only after this.
beyond the influence of the threefold nature
If a seeker has reached the state of Samadhi, it means that the seeker is in a samadhi state. He is free from the dualities of happiness-sorrow, loss-profit, respect-insult etc. In that situation the seeker has no separate existence. The seeker becomes situated in Brahma. God’s power, consciousness and bliss automatically start manifesting completely through the words, feelings and actions of the seeker. In the state of Samadhi, mental states like pramana, viparyaya, vikalpa, sleep, memory etc. disappear.
On attaining the state of Samadhi, the seeker becomes free from the panchakleshas of ignorance, asmita, attachment, hatred and attachment etc. which make the living being rotate in the cycle of life-death and worldly affairs, but achieving this state is not easy. Many stages have to be crossed. It is a long term process. The cover of ignorance and ignorance is removed from the soul.
Just as the glory of the sun becomes visible as soon as it is freed from the cover of clouds, in the same way, as soon as the cover of ignorance is removed, the soul recognizes its true form and becomes situated in God. The seeker goes beyond the influence of the triple nature of Sat, Raja, Tama etc. He goes beyond the influence of tanmatras like sound, form, taste, smell etc.
stages of samadhi
Two stages or levels of Samadhi have been described – Samprajnata and Asamprajnata. There are 4 types of Samprajnata Samadhi – The first is Savitarka Samadhi. This is the form of Samadhi in which meditation is done on a gross subject. For example, meditating on an idol is called Savitarka Samadhi. The second is Savichar Samadhi. This is the form of Samadhi in which meditation is done on a subtle subject. In this Samadhi, sometimes Tanmatra also becomes the subject of meditation. The third is Sanand Samadhi. In this Samadhi the senses remain the object of meditation. We have 11 senses – 5 sense organs, 5 action senses and the mind. Attention is focused on these. Fourth is Sasmit Samadhi. The subject of meditation in this state is the ego. Ego is called identity. Some scholars say that Samprajnata Samadhi is the result of a pure mind washed by renunciation. In this Samadhi, the mind is purified, but the seeds of the rituals of karma still remain in the mind. That is why it is also called Sabeez Samadhi. Therefore, to deseed this vegetable, one has to enter the next stage of samadhi, which is called asamprajnata or seedless samadhi. In Asaprajnata Samadhi, all mental activity comes to an end. The mind only holds the latent sanskars.
Thus the first stage of Samadhi i.e. Samprajnata Samadhi is of purity. The second stage of Samadhi i.e. Asamprajnata Samadhi is dissolution. In the first stage of Samadhi i.e. Samprajnata Samadhi, all the impurities in the mind of the seeker disappear. All vices and evils are erased. But the seeds of karmic rituals remain in the mind. In the second stage of Samadhi i.e. Asamprajnata Samadhi, the seeds of karmic rituals are also destroyed and the mental tendencies are completely controlled.
In the state of ignorance samadhi, both evil and good also fall away. Even the mind that possesses goodness or pure state also comes to an end. This is a state of no-mind. This cessation of the mind is essentially the cessation of the sense of the body. In this state there is a feeling of separation from the body. In this state the soul recognizes its true form. And the soul loses contact with various subjects. This is the state of salvation. Any seeker can attain this state of supreme bliss and supreme happiness by following fixed time, regular place, regular sadhana and satvik diet and restraint.
