New Delhi, May 7 (IANS). Leading American technology company Apple has announced to invest Rs 100 crore for the development of India’s renewable energy infrastructure. This is in line with the company’s objectives to move towards sustainability and becoming carbon neutral.

The company said that this investment will be made in collaboration with Cleanmax, one of the leading renewable energy development companies, which will help in creating more than 150 MW of new renewable energy capacity across the country.

According to the iPhone maker, the planned capacity will be enough to power about 1.5 lakh Indian homes per year and can be expanded further in the coming years.

The initiative aims to promote renewable energy across Apple’s supply chain in India and supports the company’s goal of becoming carbon neutral across its operations by 2030.

Sarah Chandler, Apple’s vice president of environmental and supply chain innovation, said, “At Apple, our commitment to the environment is a driving force for innovation across the company and around the world.”

He further added, “We are proud to invest in India’s clean energy economy and advance our efforts to protect the country’s precious natural resources.”

Additionally, Apple has previously partnered with CleanMax on rooftop solar projects that will see its offices and retail stores in India run on 100 percent renewable energy.

In addition to renewable energy investments, the company also announced new partnerships focused on reducing plastic pollution and promoting green entrepreneurship in India.

The company said it is collaborating with WWF-India to support recycling and waste management initiatives to improve material recovery and reduce plastic leakage into the ecosystem.

The iPhone maker is also partnering with Acumen to provide grants and mentorship support to early-stage green enterprises working in areas such as waste management, regenerative agriculture and circular economy solutions.
