Bhopal, May 9 (IANS). Congress on Saturday launched ‘Project M’ in Madhya Pradesh to strengthen its grassroots network ahead of the upcoming elections. It is an initiative to unite women from minority communities and increase the organizational base of the party.

This campaign was launched at the party’s state office Indira Bhawan in Bhopal, where senior leaders including State Congress in-charge Harish Chaudhary talked to women representatives of the minority community and told about plans to increase their role in political and social leadership.

State Congress President Jitu Patwari said that the aim of this initiative is to ensure greater participation among women who traditionally stay out of mainstream politics.

Patwari further said, ‘Project M’ is a mission to connect women of minority community with leadership and decision-making abilities. We want them to become active participants in strengthening democracy and society.

Addressing the first meeting of this initiative, the State Congress Chief said that Congress believes that real political change starts from the grassroots level. She further said that through this campaign, women will become a bridge between society and democratic participation.

Out of power in Madhya Pradesh for more than 20 years, the Congress is trying to rebuild its base through a focused social and organizational campaign. Congress leaders said that ‘Project M’ is a long-term effort to create a separate grassroots structure under the leadership of minority women and identify new leaders at the local level.

Under this initiative, Congress has formed a state-level Women Leadership Group of about 160 members. These members will work to connect women in villages, towns and urban areas with the party’s ideology, welfare agenda and organizational activities.
