New Delhi, May 11 (IANS). Lasoda, also known as Indian Cherry, is a medium-sized, fast-growing deciduous tree. It usually grows 10 to 20 meters high and is famous for its gum-like fruits, which people in villages and towns have been eating and using for years. It may look small and simple but it is beneficial for both taste and health.
Lasoda tree usually grows easily in dry and hot areas. Its fruits are green in color and become slightly sweet after ripening. Raw Lasoda is most used in making pickles. In many homes, its delicious vegetable is also prepared, which people eat with great enthusiasm.
Lasoda not only tastes good but also provides essential nutrition to the body. There is a treasure of nutrients hidden in this small fruit. Essential nutrients like fiber, calcium, iron, phosphorus and zinc are found in it. Along with giving strength to the body, it also helps in improving digestion. People have been using it in some form or the other in villages since ancient times.
Lasoda is considered very beneficial for the stomach. It is considered good for people who have constipation or digestive problems. Apart from this, it can also help in increasing the immunity of the body. Even its fruits, leaves and seeds are used in Ayurveda. In many places, its leaves are also used in swelling and skin related problems.
