New Delhi, May 12 (IANS). The Roorkee-based Central Building Research Institute (CSIR-CBRI) of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research transferred 13 indigenous technologies to industries and startups at a function organized on the National Technology Day. This information was given in an official statement issued on Tuesday.

The science and technology ministry statement said the transferred technologies include fire safety, sustainable construction, infrastructure protection, energy efficiency and advanced building materials.

Key technologies transferred include fire retardant transparent intumescent coatings for wood and wood substitute surfaces; IPN coating technology for protection of RCC structures; Low carbon footprint brick manufacturing technology; Hybrid solar-assisted heat pump system and precast high-strength steel cord reinforcement technology for wall protection.

CSIR-CBRI Director Professor Kumar said that these transfers reflect the growing strength of India’s research ecosystem and will further the vision of self-reliant India, sustainable infrastructure and technology-led growth.

A video on “CSIR Smart Village Initiative” and the CSIR-CBRI Annual Report 2025-26 were also released during the event, highlighting CSIR’s contribution to rural development and sustainable technologies, the ministry said.

Director General of CSIR and Secretary of DSIR Dr. N. Kalaiselvi said science, innovation and technology-led development are emerging as key drivers in India’s journey to becoming a developed nation.

Kalaiselvi said that the transfer of indigenous technologies developed by CSIR laboratories to industries is significantly strengthening the national innovation ecosystem and accelerating the realization of the dream of a self-reliant India.

CSIR’s Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology has recently been in the news for its collaboration with Pune-based Serum Institute towards commercialization of gene therapy.

The institute has signed a technology transfer agreement for the clinical use and expansion of its novel gene therapy.
