Exams like UPSC and NEET are considered among the toughest exams in India. Lakhs of students prepare for these exams by working hard for years, but do you know that there are some exams in Asia which are considered more difficult and stressful than these. The impact of these examinations is so big that on the day of the examination, even the system of the entire country changes and in some places even air flights are stopped.

In Asian countries, a very serious environment is seen regarding education and competitive examinations. Many examinations here decide not only the career but the entire future of the students. This is the reason why both the society and the government remain extremely sensitive regarding these exams.

China’s ‘Gaokao’ exam

Among the most difficult examinations in Asia, the first name comes to China’s “Gaokao” examination. This examination is the main means of university admission for Chinese students. Crores of students appear for it every year and it is considered a life-changing examination.

The pressure from Gaokao is so great that during the exams, traffic is controlled in many cities, construction work is stopped and special arrangements are made to keep noise down. The administration remains on alert mode to ensure that students get a calm environment.

South Korea’s ‘Sunung’ exam

South Korea’s “Suneung” examination is also counted among the most difficult and stressful examinations in the world. This is the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), which is considered a major determinant of the future of the students.

The atmosphere of the entire country changes on the day of this examination. According to reports, offices open late to reduce traffic during the examination and the most shocking thing is that at the time of the English Listening test, flights and even landing of airplanes are temporarily stopped so that any kind of noise does not affect the concentration of the students.

Japan’s National Center Test

The national examination conducted for university admission in Japan is also considered very difficult. Here students are under immense pressure for academic performance. If students fail in the exam, they may have to wait till next year, hence the stress regarding this is very high.

India’s UPSC and NEET are no less

India’s UPSC Civil Services Examination and NEET are also among the toughest examinations in the world. The success rate in UPSC is extremely low, whereas in NEET lakhs of students compete for the limited number of medical seats. However, in some countries of Asia, the environment created at the social and government level regarding the examination makes it even more challenging.

Why are these examinations considered so difficult?

According to experts, the difficulty of these examinations lies not only in the level of questions but also in mental pressure, social expectations and limited opportunities. In many countries, these exams are considered to be the turning point in life, which creates immense pressure on students.

Education experts say that competitive examinations are certainly a medium to test the ability of students, but maintaining mental health and balance is equally important. Amidst the ever-increasing competition, discussions have started in many countries on making the examination system less stressful.
