New Delhi, May 17 (IANS). CNG has become expensive again in Delhi. On Sunday, its prices were increased by Re 1 per kg. This is the second increase in just two days, further increasing the burden of fuel cost on passengers in the Delhi-NCR region.
CNG price in Delhi increased by one rupee to Rs 80.09 per kg on Sunday. This is the first time that CNG prices in Delhi have crossed the Rs 80 mark. After this increase, the price of CNG in Noida and Ghaziabad will now be Rs 88.70 per kg.
Earlier on Friday, CNG prices were increased by Rs 2 per kg. At that time the rate of CNG in Delhi had increased to Rs 79.09 per kg.
On Friday, petrol prices had also increased by about Rs 3 per liter and diesel prices by about Rs 3 per liter in the national capital. After this change, petrol is being sold at the rate of Rs 97.77 per liter and diesel at the rate of Rs 90.67 per liter in Delhi.
The surge in fuel prices comes amid rising tensions in West Asia and the continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy trade routes. About a fifth of global oil and gas trade passes through the narrow passage and supply disruptions have caused international crude prices to rise sharply.
Responding to the criticism regarding rising fuel prices, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju recently said that despite the huge surge in global crude oil prices, India has been successful in limiting the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel.
He pointed out that while many countries saw fuel price increases ranging from 20 per cent to almost 100 per cent, petrol and diesel prices in India increased by only 3.2 per cent and 3.4 per cent respectively. Rijiju said global markets are volatile, yet India’s public sector oil marketing companies suffered huge losses for weeks to protect consumers from the bigger impact of inflation.
