Mumbai Muslim leaders on Sunday held a meeting with NGOs, lawyers, social workers, political party leaders and others to discuss administrative preparations for the upcoming Bakrid festival and ensure peaceful conduct. This festival, celebrated by Muslims all over the world, will be celebrated in India on the basis of sighting of the moon on 27th May. Speaking to after the meeting, AIMIM spokesperson Waris Pathan said it has been observed that some people, who spread hatred, want to create unrest. Today anyone on the road calls himself a cow protector and vehicles are stopped arbitrarily. He further said that a committee has been formed which will resolve all the complaints legally because, according to the heir, many problems come up during the festival.
Advocate Amin Solkar appealed for a peaceful celebration of Bakrid, saying that the rules and guidelines of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Maharashtra government will be strictly followed.
He also said that everything will be done as per the guidelines issued by BMC.
Muslim religious leader Mufti Mohammad Ashfaq Qazi said that India has Ganga-Jamuni culture. All festivals are celebrated peacefully in the country. We will ensure that it is followed this time also.
Ashfaq Qazi stressed that sometimes people, whether Hindu or Muslim, try to disturb peace between communities to fulfill their personal interests.
He said that if as per law it is necessary to register the animal (goat) with BMC, then it should be done. He also said that our team of lawyers will work to stop incidents that disturb law and order. Mufti Qazi appealed to everyone to celebrate the festival with peace and brotherhood.
