Amid global tensions and the government’s appeal to save energy, the country’s market regulator, SEBI, is now going to take an important step. SEBI has decided to implement a limited arrangement of ‘work from home’ for its employees. This means that those charged with regulating the markets will work from their homes and carry out their regulatory responsibilities remotely.
According to a report, this advisory issued by SEBI will come into effect from May 25, 2026 and will remain in effect for the next eight weeks. During this period, officers from Grade A to Grade C will be allowed to work from home for one day a week, on a rotational basis. These posts include Assistant Manager, Manager and Assistant General Manager.
However, this facility will not be available to all employees. It will be mandatory for Deputy General Manager level officers – especially Group D and above officers – to attend office regularly. Additionally, staff attached to the offices of the Chairman and Whole-Time Members, as well as the Secretariat staff, will also have to work from the office premises.
SEBI has also clarified that in every department, it is mandatory for at least 50 percent of the officers to be physically present in the office. To ensure this, Chief General Managers, Regional Directors and Heads of Departments have been instructed to prepare duty rosters on a rotational basis. Employees working from home have also been instructed to maintain data security and privacy. Apart from this, they have also been asked to be ready to report to the office immediately if the need arises. Apart from the ‘work from home’ arrangement, SEBI has also decided to temporarily postpone non-essential internal events. For the next eight weeks, events like brainstorming sessions, conferences and social gatherings will not be organised.
