Minister of State for Urban Development, Housing and Self-Government Jhabar Singh Kharra said on Saturday that the state government is fully prepared to conduct Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections in accordance with the recent directions of the Rajasthan High Court.
Kharra made this statement during his visit to Ajmer, where he laid the foundation stone of a convention center near Jhalkari Bai Memorial. He said that the government will extend full cooperation to the State Election Commission for conducting the elections and assured that there will be no shortage of funds for the development of Ajmer.
While talking to the media, Kharra said that it is the responsibility of the State Election Commission to implement the decision of the High Court. He further said that the government will fulfill every requirement asked by the Commission for smoothly conducting the local body elections. The Election Commission will have to study the instructions of the High Court and proceed accordingly. The government is fully prepared to conduct elections.
During this visit, Kharra, along with Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, laid the foundation stone of the Science Park and a convention center near the Jhalkari Bai Memorial area. Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Chaudhary was also present on the occasion. Equipped with world-class facilities, this modern convention center will have a seating capacity of approximately 1400 people.
Kharra said the complex will have a high-end cafeteria, extensive parking arrangements, well-maintained internal roads, a modern drainage system, a strong boundary wall and attractive landscaping, which will take Ajmer’s image of modernity and progress to new heights. The minister’s comments came a day after the Rajasthan High Court’s decision in which it had said that Panchayat and urban local body elections cannot be delayed indefinitely.
The court extended the deadline to complete the election process till July 31, but made it clear that the elections cannot be postponed merely because the OBC Commission report is pending. The High Court also directed the State Election Commission to complete the delimitation of wards and revision of voter lists for urban local bodies by June 20. The court warned that the officials would be personally responsible for any further delay in the revision of the voter list.
