New Delhi, 20 September (IANS). Aerospace company Airbus has announced that the company will set up a research and development center of excellence at the speed power university in Gujarat as part of its commitment to strengthen India’s innovation system.
Airbus Managing Director Jurgan Westermeyer announced the plan after meeting Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav.
He said that the company purchases components worth more than $ 1 billion from more than 100 Indian suppliers every year.
Union Minister Vaishnav said, “Airbus India MD Joregan Westermeyer was happy to know that Airbus buys components worth more than $ 1 billion and has more than 100 Indian suppliers. With a strong design capacity, it will soon set up an R&D Center of Excellence at the Speed Power University.”
The aircraft maker company has set up a digital center in Bengaluru, which it calls the backbone of its digital change. The Bangalore hub of Airbus is its second largest digital feature after the headquarters in tooluz, France.
In 2018, the company expanded its digital capabilities in India by setting up a Global Capability Center GCC to support all the divisions around the world.
The aircraft maker company has appointed more than 3600 employees at its various sites, including more than 1500 efficient IT professionals to provide IT solutions to the business.
Airbus cooperates with major Indian institutions on REDi projects focused on sustainability, engineering, cyber security, artificial intelligence and big data.
In a statement, the global firm said that the local footprint of Airbus in sourcing, engineering, innovation and training service is a proof of our commitment to the development of local ecosystem.
The company said that India serves as a strategic resource center, which provides world-class talent and research to promote the aerospace sector.
Airbus helicopters gave a contract to Mahindra Arostructure Private Limited for the construction of fuselage of their H125 helicopters in August, which strengthens cooperation between the two companies and the government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign.
