New Delhi, May 26 (IANS). Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has approved Rs 1,427.61 crore for the construction of 4-lane Thiruvarur bypass on the Nagapattinam-Thanjavur section of NH-83 in Tamil Nadu. This information was given by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Tuesday.
The ministry said the project is 14.9 km long and also includes construction of two additional Road Over Bridges (ROBs) on NH-129A and NH-134A.

This strategic project will help connect major industrial centers like Tiruchirappalli and Coimbatore with port cities like Karaikal and Nagapattinam, thereby boosting regional economic activities.
The ministry said in the statement that the bypass, starting from Adiyakkamangalam-Tandalai, will pass through key places including Attipuliyur, Andipalayam, Kidaramkondan, Pallivarmangalam, Perumpugalur, Ilavangarkudi and Anaivadapathy Colony, the ministry said in a statement.
Once completed, the project will significantly decongest Thiruvarur city, reduce travel time by approximately 15 minutes and enhance road safety by diverting traffic from densely populated and commercial areas.
The statement further said that this route will also be helpful in establishing better connectivity with routes SH-23, SH-65 and the revered Thyagaraja Swamy Temple, thereby contributing to both infrastructure development and ease of travel in the region.
Additionally, Union Minister Gadkari reviewed the progress of quality and maintenance of 4,335 km National Highway projects in Punjab and 3,332 km in Delhi and Haryana.
The review meeting held in New Delhi was attended by Union Ministers of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra and senior officials of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, National Highway Authority of India and project contractors.
