New Delhi, June 20 (IANS). Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and WRI India signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Saturday. The partnership aims to strengthen cooperation in areas such as sustainable batteries, electric mobility, resource efficiency, battery recycling, clean energy transition and policy research.
Under this partnership, both the institutions will promote joint research projects, academic collaboration, policy studies, knowledge-sharing programmes, workshops, training programmes, conferences and exchange of students and faculty. Both the institutions will work together on topics related to sustainable transportation, battery technology, critical minerals value chains and circular economy.
This collaboration comes at a time when the renewable energy, electric vehicles and advanced manufacturing sector is expanding rapidly in India. Due to this, the demand for sustainable battery technologies, stronger supply chains and better use of resources is continuously increasing.
Professor Kamal Kishore Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, said that strong collaboration between academic institutions, industry, research organizations and policy makers is essential to move towards a sustainable and self-reliant energy future.

He further said, “This partnership with WRI India will create new opportunities for research, innovation, capacity building and knowledge creation. This will strengthen India’s energy transition journey in areas such as sustainable batteries, circular economy, critical minerals and clean transportation.”
Professor Vivek Kumar Malik, Dean, Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy (SRIC), IIT Roorkee, said the agreement provides an important framework for joint research and academic collaboration.
“This MoU provides a strong foundation for joint research, academic exchanges and capacity building programmes,” he said.
He further added, “By combining the research capabilities of IIT Roorkee and the sustainable development and policy making expertise of WRI India, we aim to achieve outcomes that contribute to technological progress and fact-based decision making.”
The agreement was signed by Professor Vivek Kumar Malik, Dean, SRIC, on behalf of IIT Roorkee and Pawan Kumar Mulukutla, Executive Director, Integrated Transport, Clean Air and Hydrogen Programme, on behalf of WRI India.
