New Delhi, May 28 (IANS). CPI (M) leader Vrinda Karat’s reaction to the alleged attack on the car of an ED officer by protesters outside Pinarayi Vijayan’s house in Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram has come to light.
Speaking to IANS, Vrinda Karat said that the ED raids on the houses and offices of CPM leader Pinarayi Vijayan were considered by most people as a clearly politically motivated move. The purpose of this raid was to threaten, intimidate and humiliate such a tall leader of the opposition.
He said that obviously this automatically started protests all over Kerala and not only in Kerala but also in other parts of the country. He said that you must have seen that not only CPM leaders but also leaders of other parties have clearly called it a politically motivated attack.
He said that when such an incident happens to a leader who is highly respected and who enjoys the support of the people on a large scale, then protests are inevitable. These protests happened spontaneously. However, the ED is trying to portray this as a well-planned attack on its teams, which was not the case at all.
Vrinda Karat said that if it had been a premeditated attack, ED teams across Kerala would have faced similar incidents. This clearly shows that this was a spontaneous way of protest on the part of the youth.
He said that therefore, it is completely misleading on the part of ED to call this an attack carried out as part of a well-planned conspiracy. The same thing also applies to some statements given by Congress leaders in Kerala.
Vrinda Karat said that it is very clear that they (ED) are working together with BJP. The BJP is trying to weaken the leadership and tarnish the image of the CPI(M) through some Congress leaders in Kerala. They will not get success in this. CPI(M) is a party that has faced many challenges and will never succumb to such tactics.
