In the list of 25 best-selling cars in May 2026, Maruti Suzuki Dezire stood at the first position, while the Forex and Ertiga stood at the second and third positions respectively.
Even in May 2026, SUVs remained the first choice of Indian customers. This month’s list of top 25 best-selling cars included 18 utility vehicles (SUVs and MPVs), accounting for 72 percent of the total ranking. However, despite the growing popularity of SUVs, the Maruti Suzuki Dezire remains the country’s best-selling passenger car. At the same time, a total of 11 models of Maruti Suzuki were successful in making it to the top 25.
Maruti Suzuki Dezire sold 24,546 units in May 2026, which is 36 percent more than last year. The second position was taken by Maruti Suzuki, which sold 20,686 units and registered a growth of 52 percent. At third place was Maruti Ertiga, which sold 20,350 units. Total sales of these three models were more than 65,000 units.
Tata Motors’ Punch and Nexon took the fourth and fifth positions respectively. 20,208 units of Punch were sold and its sales increased by 54 percent. At the same time, 19,100 units of Nexon were sold, which is 46 percent more on annual basis. After this, Maruti’s Baleno, WagonR and Swift secured the next three positions, which clearly shows the company’s strong hold in the entry-level segment.

Mahindra Scorpio stood ninth in the list with sales of 15,774 units, while Hyundai Creta remained in the top 10 with 15,253 units. Apart from this, models like Hyundai Venue, Kia Seltos, Kia Sonet, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyrider and Toyota Innova were also successful in registering good sales, which shows the continuously increasing demand for SUV and MPV segment.
Maruti Alto led among the models registering the highest growth in May 2026, whose sales almost doubled and increased by 99 percent. After this, Grand Vitara registered a growth of 80 percent and Kia Seltos registered a growth of 74 percent. Sales of Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Venue also increased by 58 percent and 56 percent respectively. Recently launched new models like Victoris and Sierra also managed to make it to the top 25 list.
However, the performance of all models was not positive. The highest decline of 16 percent was recorded in the sales of Mahindra XUV 3XO. After this, sales of Maruti Suzuki Brezza declined by 14 percent. At the same time, the sales of Hyundai Creta were also less as compared to last year, although it was successful in maintaining its place in the top 10 best selling cars of the country.
