Dehradun, June 9 (IANS). Dehradun administration has tightened the noose on unlicensed pharmacy and illegal drug trade. Additional Commissioner and Drug Controller Tajbar Singh Jaggi clearly said that no person can do drug business without a license. He said that in the last two years, 89 people have been arrested so far while taking strict action against unlicensed pharmacies and fake doctors. With this keen eye of the administration, efforts are being made to curb the trade of illegal drugs.

Speaking to IANS in Dehradun, Additional Commissioner and Drug Controller Tajbar Singh Jaggi said that no person can do drug business without a license. If someone is found working without a license, a case is registered against him under Section 18(C)/27 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, which has a provision of minimum punishment of three years. As far as fake doctors are concerned, our DLC team takes joint action with the representatives of the district administration and CMO office. If a person works as a fake doctor, then the CMO and his team take action against him, whereas in cases related to medicines, the Drugs Department takes action.

He said that during the year 2024-25 and 2025-26, we have arrested 89 people who were involved in drug trade, unlicensed drug trade or trade in counterfeit medicines. Apart from this, the court’s decision has come in two of our cases, in which the culprits have been sentenced to 10 years each.

On the other hand, regarding the scorching heat, Chief Medical Officer of Dehradun, Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma appealed to the people to take some precautions.

He said that in view of the changing weather and increasing heat, the Health Department has made extensive preparations for the prevention of heat stroke, diarrhea, water-borne and mosquito-borne diseases. All government hospitals have been instructed to keep necessary resources available for the treatment of heat stroke patients. Arrangements for ORS, IV fluids, ice packs, coolers and ACs have been ensured in hospitals.

He said that he has appealed to avoid exposure to sunlight in the afternoon, drink adequate amount of water, wear cotton clothes and seek medical help immediately if symptoms of heat stroke appear. It has also been advised to avoid stale food, drink clean and boiled water and keep food covered.

For the prevention of dengue, a survey is being conducted by the Health Department through Asha workers. Dengue volunteers will be deployed in Dehradun and Rishikesh and a door-to-door larval testing and awareness campaign will be conducted. The Municipal Corporation has been instructed to conduct regular fogging and larva control activities. The CMO has especially advised children and the elderly to be alert and follow hygiene rules to prevent weather-borne diseases.

The CMO said that a list of pregnant women has been prepared, while data of patients suffering from serious and chronic diseases requiring regular treatment is being compiled. The effort of the department is to ensure arrangements to take pregnant women to the hospital before the expected delivery date, so that in case of emergency, safe delivery can be done.

He said that a separate action plan is also being made for those patients who have to come to the hospital once or twice a week. In case of road blockage, micro planning is being done with the help of the administration to take the patients to the hospital and provide timely treatment.

Anil Sharma, in-charge of 108 ambulance service, said that in view of the Chardham Yatra and monsoon season, 108 ambulance service has made special preparations. Based on the experience of previous years, ambulances are deployed on Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri routes as per the need. About 75 ambulances are active on the main travel routes. Till now, assistance has been provided by 108 service in more than 3 thousand emergency cases during the Chardham Yatra.

He said that arrangements have been made at the local level keeping in mind the challenges like pre-monsoon rains, network disruption, traffic jams and affected road connectivity. Also, an appeal has been made to the passengers and drivers to take special caution on the hilly routes. The possibility of accidents increases due to overspeeding and carelessness, hence vigilance is very important for safe travel.
