The cyber security agency of the Government of India has issued a serious warning to millions of Google Chrome users. According to the agency, several security vulnerabilities have been found in the Chrome browser, taking advantage of which cyber criminals can target users’ systems.
**CERT-In Security Alert**
Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), a government-backed cyber security body, has said in its latest advisory that some older versions of Google Chrome are vulnerable to security threats. This threat affects Chrome browsers running on Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms. The agency has advised those users who have older versions of Chrome installed in their systems to update the browser as soon as possible.

**What is the danger?**
According to CERT-In, an attacker could use these vulnerabilities to remotely run malicious code on the system. Additionally, it may also be possible to steal sensitive information, crash the system, or bypass the browser’s security layers. Cybersecurity experts believe that such vulnerabilities allow hackers to perform unauthorized activities on users’ devices, which can compromise both personal and organizational data.
**Where were the flaws found in Chrome?**
The investigation found technical flaws in several critical components of Chrome. These include GPU, V8 engine, Blink, WebGL, WebRTC, PDF viewer, media, network, extensions, and other browser sub-systems. These shortcomings include problems with memory management, buffer overflows, type confusion, integer overflows, and uninitialized memory. Such vulnerabilities could give cyber criminals an opportunity to compromise the security of the system.
**How can the attack be carried out?**
According to experts, a hacker can harm users by using a specially crafted webpage or link. If a user opens that link, an attacker may try to take advantage of these vulnerabilities. Simply put, clicking on a suspicious website or link can pose a risk.

How to update Chrome immediately?
Update Chrome to the latest version immediately to ensure your security.
