New Delhi, June 10 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a review meeting with officials of ONDC and Made India in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The meeting discussed strengthening retail and distribution systems through open digital networks, connecting small producers and artisans with digital platforms and strengthening logistics and mobility services through innovation-based digital solutions.
“These initiatives have huge potential to expand market access, improve service delivery and promote broader economic participation,” Piyush Goyal wrote on social media platform X.
Nirmit Bharat is a non-profit subsidiary of Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). ONDC is a government-backed digital commerce network of India.
Earlier this month, ride-hailing platform Uber announced a strategic investment in ONDC, one of the first investments by a global technology company in India’s open digital commerce network.
According to the company, this investment further strengthens its commitment to India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) ecosystem and reflects its long-term strategy to grow mobility and logistics services through open and interoperable networks.
This investment builds on the already existing partnership between Uber and ONDC. The company has already integrated itself with the ONDC network.
ONDC Independent Director Adil Zainulbhai said this investment reflects growing confidence in India’s digital commerce infrastructure and its ability to provide a level playing field for businesses.
The Chennai-based global technology company said the investment is aimed at making technology more accessible and inclusive for businesses of all sizes, especially micro, small and medium enterprises.
ONDC recorded 21.8 crore (218 million) transactions during FY 2025-26. During this period, the network continued its expansion into several sectors including retail, logistics, mobility and financial services.
ONDC is developing an open digital commerce network that aims to promote interoperability, inclusivity and efficiency across sectors. It is also working towards addressing structural challenges such as fragmented systems, high entry barriers and lack of trust in digital commerce.
