PM Modi-Starmer meet in G-7 summit, many issues from trade to AI discussed

Evian (France), June 16 (IANS). There was a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday during the G-7 summit in Evian, France. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen India-UK relations.

Prime Minister Modi wrote on social media platform

He further said, “We discussed ways to work together in innovation, artificial intelligence, skill development, sports and other areas. Also, there was talk on increasing investment in the interests of the people of both the countries.”

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two leaders reviewed the rapid progress made in India-UK relations following their visits to each other’s countries last year. They welcomed the progress made under ‘Vision 2035’ in all areas such as trade and economic development, defense and security, combating climate change, green energy, technology and innovation, education and people-to-people contacts.

Both the leaders also expressed hope that the ‘Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement’ will be implemented soon. He also expressed happiness over the increasing cooperation in the field of education. Recently Liverpool University has taken steps towards setting up its campus in Bengaluru. At the same time, York University and Bristol University are also preparing to start their campuses in Mumbai.

Prime Minister Modi thanked Prime Minister Starmer for Britain’s active participation in the AI ​​Impact Summit held in Delhi this year. They also welcomed progress being made under the Technology Security Initiative, including the recent launch of the India-UK Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory.

The two leaders also shared views on a number of regional and global issues, including West Asia and Ukraine. He reiterated his commitment to further strengthen the India-UK ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’.

Prime Minister Modi also met many other global leaders during the G-7 summit.

He said, “Talks are continuing with world leaders during the G-7 summit in Evian.” Along with this, he also shared glimpses of his meetings with US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron and other leaders.
