The country’s biggest medical entrance exam has been a hot topic of debate this year, mainly due to the paper leak and the subsequent decision to conduct the exam again. In light of the re-investigation, the government has taken an important step by temporarily banning Telegram until the investigation is completed. However, amid this, disturbing incidents of NEET aspirants dying by suicide have emerged, raising concerns. Let’s see the details…

Lakhs of students were preparing for NEET exam for a long time and were waiting for their results. However, due to cancellation of the exam these candidates were forced to prepare again. A recent report has raised concerns; This shows that at least 14 cases of NEET-related suicide have been reported so far in 2026. Notably, five of these cases were reported after the announcement of cancellation of the exams.

Why did the anxiety increase after the cancellation of NEET exam?

NEET is considered to be the biggest medical entrance exam in the country. Every year lakhs of students join it with the dream of becoming a doctor; This year around 23 lakh students appeared in the examination. Many students hoped for good scores and then admission into medical colleges. However, the decision to cancel the exam due to paper leak allegations forced lakhs of students to restart their preparations. Many students and parents have reported that this situation has significantly increased mental pressure and stress.

What did the report reveal?

According to media reports, at least 93 cases of NEET-related suicide have been reported between 2021 and 2026. The report suggests that the highest number of such cases occurred in 2025, when at least 32 students lost their lives. Meanwhile, it has been reported that 14 such cases have already been reported in 2026. The report said that five of these cases were registered after the announcement of cancellation of the exam on May 12, 2026. However, these figures are based on media reports and are not considered official government data.

Where did these cases happen?

According to reports, after the cancellation of NEET 2026 exam, several cases of death of students have been reported from different states across the country. Such incidents came to light in Goa on May 14; Uttar Pradesh and Delhi on May 15; Rajasthan on 16 May; And Karnataka on 24 May. After this, many incidents came to light in June also. The news of the death of Ajit Meena, resident of Dausa, Rajasthan, came to light on June 4, while 17-year-old Renu, resident of Palam area of Delhi, died on June 13. Renu’s family said that she was under a lot of stress due to the cancellation of the exams. Meanwhile, news of death of NEET candidates also came from Sikar in Rajasthan on 15th June and Dehradun in Uttarakhand on 16th June.
