Chennai, June 18 (IANS). AMMK general secretary TTV. Dhinakaran on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the TVK-led Tamil Nadu government. He described the Governor’s address in the Assembly as ‘gilded tin’, which means ‘looks great but actually has no substance or truth’.
In a post on social media platform He argued that the speech failed to address the major issues facing the state and instead presented a misleading picture of governance.
Former Chief Minister C.N. Referring to Annadurai’s opening speech with the statement that ‘the people are the real masters of the country,’ Dhinakaran alleged that the government selectively embraced Anna’s legacy, while ignoring his broader vision.
He criticized reiterating the two-language policy and opposing certain aspects of the national education policy, claiming that such stances could adversely affect students by limiting their educational opportunities.
The AMMK leader alleged that many of the demands repeatedly raised by Tamil Nadu were simply copied from the previous Governor’s speeches without any concrete action plan. These include including Tamil as the language of proceedings in the Madras High Court, setting up a Supreme Court bench in Chennai, transferring education from the concurrent list to the state list, ensuring a permanent solution to the problems of fishermen and interlinking of rivers.
Dhinakaran also criticized the government for not strongly opposing Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu Dam project and Kerala’s repeated demands for a new dam at Mullaperiyar. He argued that this silence shows the influence of the Congress, which is part of the ruling coalition, on issues affecting the rights and interests of farmers in Tamil Nadu.
Questioning the government’s claims on women’s safety, she pointed to recent incidents of murder, robbery and crimes against women and children. He said that the Governor’s claim that the government will create a safe environment for women seems to be different from the ground reality.
Dhinakaran expressed disappointment that several key election promises, including financial assistance for women, free LPG cylinders and other welfare schemes, were not included in the speech.
