Srinagar, June 18 (IANS). Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha has terminated the services of a government employee for allegedly having terrorist connections, an official said on Thursday.
Officials said that Mohammad Shafi, a government employee working as an inspector in Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (PDD), has been fired from the job due to his alleged links with terrorists.
“LG Manoj Sinha ordered the removal of Mohammad Shafi, posted as Inspector in the Power Development Department, with immediate effect,” officials said.
The LG administration has so far terminated the services of about 90 government employees who were found to have links with terrorist groups.
Officials said the name of 51-year-old Shafi, a resident of Arwani village in Bijbehara, was included in three FIRs lodged under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code and the Arms Act at the Bijbehara police station between 2017 and 2018.
He is the ninth government employee to be removed from the job this year.
While the LG administration had terminated the services of five government employees in January, three more employees were terminated in March.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has removed 91 government employees since 2019 for alleged terrorist links and anti-national activities.
The dismissals have been made under Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution, which allows the LG’s administration to take action without a formal departmental inquiry in the interest of the security of the state.
On Thursday, an inspector of the Power Development Department was removed from his job for his alleged links with militant activities.
In January and April, several employees, including a school teacher, a laboratory technician and health department staff, were dismissed from their jobs for allegedly maintaining links with banned organizations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Security and intelligence agencies prepare dossiers detailing employees’ alleged involvement, which includes activities such as providing logistical and financial support to insurgents.
Under Article 311(2)(c), the LG administration can remove government employees from service without conducting regular departmental inquiry on grounds of national security.
Officials said the policy, adopted since 2019, aims to identify and remove government employees who are allegedly involved in activities prejudicial to national security.
