Chhattisgarh Doctor Protest: A new proposal of Chhattisgarh Medical Council has sparked debate in the medical sector of the state. IMA expressed strong objection
The most vocal protest against this decision has been made by the Chhattisgarh unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA). IMA says that under the current rules, it is mandatory for any outside doctor to register with Chhattisgarh Medical Council before practicing in the state. In such a situation, the new proposal is being said to be contrary to the rules and against the interests of local doctors. Doctors believe that this decision may affect the employment opportunities of medical students, junior doctors and local physicians of the state. Junior doctor organizations have also expressed concern about their future.

The organization says that if needed, protest programs affecting medical services can also be organized. Apart from this, a delegation of doctors is preparing to meet senior officials of the health department and register their written objection. Besides, legal options are also being considered against this decision.
Council explained why the decision was necessary
Medical Council officials say that this step has been taken with an aim to overcome the shortage of specialist doctors in rural and remote areas. They argue that this will increase the availability of health services and patients will be able to get better treatment. However, critics say that allowing doctors without local registration may raise questions on accountability and transparency. They believe that in case of any dispute or complaint, it will be difficult to fix responsibility.
