Itanagar, June 24 (IANS). Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General K.T. Paranaik (retd) on Wednesday discussed in detail the current law and order situation in the state with State Home Minister Mama Natung. During this, special attention was paid to the recent events at North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST).
A Raj Bhavan official said that the Home Minister met the Governor at Raj Bhavan. During this, both the leaders reviewed the law and order situation in Arunachal Pradesh and discussed in detail the recent incident at (Nerist) located in Nirjuli near Itanagar.
Expressing deep concern over this unfortunate development, the Governor said that NERIST is one of the premier technical and higher educational institutions in the North Eastern region. The incident that happened here has raised serious concerns about the functioning and environment of the institute.
He stressed that educational institutions should be safe and conducive to learning. Also, he underlined the responsibility of all concerned in protecting the sanctity, dignity and reputation of educational institutions across the state.
Expressing grief over the development, Lieutenant General Paranaik demanded an impartial investigation into the allegations of bullying, intimidation and coercion by some groups against the Director of NERIST.
He said that such incidents set a wrong example for the youth and should be dealt with appropriately as per the law.
Emphasizing the importance of better functioning and administration of the institution, he said that the management and administration of educational institutions should be based on the principles of merit, honesty, dignity, discipline, transparency and accountability.
He further said that any act which harms the functioning, credibility or goodwill of educational institutions should be dealt with strictly and in accordance with the law, so that public confidence in the educational system of the State is maintained.
The Home Minister assured the Governor that the state government is taking the matter very seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. He said that after completion of investigation, appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty.
