Guwahati, June 25 (IANS). Assam Finance Minister Jayant Malla Barua on Thursday said the state government’s upcoming budget will lay special emphasis on ensuring full utilization of allocated funds while maintaining fiscal discipline and expediting development work in all sectors.
Addressing the BJP pre-budget consultation programme, Malla Barua said that almost 90 per cent of the budgetary allocation for the current financial year has already been utilised, which shows the better implementation capacity of the government.
He further said that the aim now is to move towards achieving almost 100 per cent expenditure of the sanctioned amount, so that the impact of public expenditure can be maximised.
The Finance Minister said that the government is preparing the budget after consulting various stakeholders and keeping in mind the suggestions received from various sections of the society.
He said that effective utilization of financial resources remains a major priority to maintain the development momentum of Assam.
Malla Barua said the state’s fiscal management has improved significantly over the years, enabling the government to undertake major infrastructure, welfare and economic development initiatives without compromising fiscal sustainability.
He stressed that the upcoming budget will continue to prioritize investment in infrastructure, employment generation, agriculture, education, healthcare and social welfare, strengthening Assam’s long-term growth path.
The Finance Minister noted the government’s focus on transparency and accountability in public expenditure and said departments have been directed to ensure timely execution of projects and efficient utilization of budgetary allocations.
The budget session of the Assam Assembly is scheduled to begin from July 6. During this time the state budget for the current financial year will be presented.
The government is expected to announce measures aimed at boosting economic growth across the state, improving public service delivery and accelerating the implementation of key schemes.
This is the first budget after the recently concluded assembly elections. BJP won 82 seats in the state for the first time, crossing the majority mark on its own. The BJP-led alliance won 102 seats in the 126-member state assembly. The Congress party suffered a crushing defeat, with the opposition party getting only 19 seats, its lowest figure in history.
