London, June 28 (). In the 28th match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, England performed brilliantly and defeated New Zealand by 9 wickets. With this defeat at the Kennington Oval, defending champion New Zealand’s journey in the tournament has ended in the group stage itself.

England achieved the target of 164 runs set by New Zealand in 17.2 overs by losing just one wicket. England did not have a good start and Amy Jones’ poor performance continued in this match as well. Jones was out after scoring just 17 runs. However, after this Danny Wyatt and Sophie Dunkley took charge and did not give any chance to the Kiwi team to make a comeback.

Together, they made an unbroken partnership of 128 runs in 80 balls for the second wicket and returned with a resounding victory to England. Wyatt continued his strong form and played an unbeaten inning of 89 runs in just 53 balls. During this innings, he hit 15 fours and one six. At the same time, Dunkley remained unbeaten after scoring 49 runs in 38 balls with the help of 9 fours. Nancy Patel got the only wicket for New Zealand.

Earlier, New Zealand scored 163 runs on the scoreboard after losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Amelia Kerr and Isabella Gage gave a strong start to the team and added 70 runs in 9.6 overs for the first wicket. Gage’s innings was slow and she was out after scoring 28 runs in 27 balls. Whereas, Kerr scored 42 runs in 34 balls with the help of 6 fours. Sophie Devine scored 30 runs in 14 balls, hitting one four and three sixes.

Izzy Sharp could not show anything special with the bat and returned to the pavilion without opening the account. At the same time, Brock Halliday contributed 20 runs in 17 balls, while Maddie Green remained unbeaten after scoring 17 runs. Suzie Bates scored 19 runs in 13 balls before being run out. In bowling, Danny Gibson took the maximum of 2 wickets for 30 runs for England, while Freya Kemp and Lauren Bell took one wicket each.
