Tehran, July 4 (IANS). India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain paid tribute on behalf of India at the funeral ceremony of late Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

Khamenei was killed on February 28 in a major attack by the US and Israel, which brought about a major change in the 46-year-old Shia-religious rule in Iran. In March, his son Mojtaba Khamenei was elected Iran’s new Supreme Leader.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs said that India’s high-level representation during this period reflects the strong civilizational ties between the two countries. This further strengthens relations between people and political and economic cooperation.
Farewell ceremonies will take place on July 4 and 5 at Imam Khomeini’s Mosallah prayer hall in Tehran. After this, funeral related programs will be held in Tehran on 6th July.
Another funeral procession will also take place in Qom city of Iran on July 7.
The final ceremony will be held in Mashhad on July 9 and he will then be buried at the holy shrine of Imam Reza, Tasnim news agency reported.
On March 5, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi and signed a condolence book and expressed condolences on behalf of the Government of India on the demise of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, while posting on ‘X’, said that the Foreign Secretary visited the Iranian Embassy and expressed condolences on behalf of the Indian government and people.
