New Delhi, November 16 (IANS). Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Sunday said that the reputation of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has increased at the global level by playing the role of external auditor of international organizations like World Health Organization (WHO) and International Labor Organization (ILO).
Addressing the people on the fifth Audit Day in the national capital, the Vice President said that at present the CAG is the Chairman of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) and International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) Committee and Working Group on IT Audit, which proves India’s global leadership in auditing standards.
This shows that now India is not playing the role of a follower but a leader in the world.
In his address, Vice President Radhakrishnan described the CAG as the “custodian of public money”, emphasizing its important role in safeguarding public money and promoting good governance.
He appreciated the CAG’s legacy of 165 years of dedicated service since the establishment of the post of Auditor General in 1860.
He said, “The supreme audit institutions around the world have the same objective – safeguarding public funds and promoting good governance. Among these, the CAG of India stands proudly upholding the principles of accountability, transparency and integrity in public life.”
Vice President Radhakrishnan lauded the CAG for notifying “One Nation, One Object Head of Expenditure” for the Central and State Governments, saying it is a reform that will significantly enhance the transparency and comparability of government expenditure.
Highlighting India’s progress in AI, Big Data, Blockchain and Machine Learning, the Vice President expressed happiness that CAG has embedded technology, predictive analytics and Generative AI into the DNA of public financial management, through initiatives such as One Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IAAD), One System, AI-based Audit Framework and many other measures.
He appreciated the partnership with premier institutions like IIT Madras for capacity building in data science, cyber security and deep learning. He expressed satisfaction that a customized Large Language Model (LLM) is being developed to digitize more than 20,000 inspection reports annually, promoting data-driven audit.
He said the adoption of technology will improve risk identification, efficiency and evidence-based governance, thereby ensuring best use of public funds.
