
Herold ‘Dicky’ Bird, the great umpire of the cricket world, died at the age of 92. Bird umpiring 66 Tests and 69 ODIs in his career. In his career, he played an umpire in the final of the three World Cup. He was a prominent Yorkshire batsman in county cricket before becoming an umpire. He was also a part of Leistershire’s team for some time. His death was reported by Yorkshire County Club.
Was last umpiring against India
Born in April 1933, Burd made his debut against Scotland in 1956. Before making his debut, he had played with veteran cricketer Geoff Boycott for some time. He retired from sports at the age of 32. He then played the role of a coach for many years and then started his career in 1973 in umpiring. He played a total of 93 first class matches for Yorkshire and managed to score 3,314 runs during this period. Bird retired from umpiring in 1996. He last umpiring in the match played between India and England. In the same match, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid made their debut for India. The match between the two teams ended on a draw.
