Mumbai, July 6 (IANS). Maharashtra Congress President Harsh Vardhan Sapkal verbally attacked the state government over the landslide in the Mumbai-Pune ‘Missing Link’ project, the worsening situation due to continuous heavy rains in Mumbai and the functioning of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). He made many serious allegations while holding Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responsible for these incidents. Also reacted to the issue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to three countries of Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand and the inclusion of a Hindu member in the Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board.
Harshvardhan Sapkal accused the government of corruption on the incident of landslide in Mumbai-Pune ‘Missing Link’ project. He said that the corrupt face of BJP has now come before the public. Just as allegations of leakage and then alleged irregularities in donations came to light regarding the Ram Temple, similarly corruption has reached its peak in Maharashtra. In the last few days, more than 12 people have died due to heavy rains and related accidents and the entire responsibility for this lies on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. During the tenure of former Chief Minister of the state Prithviraj Chavan, many suggestions were given to make the Missing Link Project technically safe, but later those suggestions were ignored. Due to neglect of technical aspects and alleged corruption, the condition of the project deteriorated and its serious consequences are visible today.
Sapkal also targeted the state government and BMC regarding the incidents of continuous rain, falling trees, house collapse and waterlogging in Mumbai. He said that the BJP led government has turned Mumbai into ‘Tumbai’. BJP has been in power in the state for many years and now in Mumbai too, despite having a ‘triple engine government’, citizens are facing basic problems. The government only publicizes its achievements, while civil amenities and disaster management are not given adequate attention. Regarding incidents like collapse of houses, falling of trees and falling into manholes in Mankhurd, he said that the government is promoting contracting and corruption instead of sustainable development, the results of which are now visible.
Harsh Vardhan Sapkal also commented on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to the three countries of Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. He said that along with foreign tours, Prime Minister Modi should also pay attention to the issues within the country. He should also express his views in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on issues like paper leak and controversies related to donations to Ram Temple. Prime Minister Modi is maintaining silence on these issues and is avoiding fulfilling moral responsibility.
Sapkal criticized the amendments made in the Waqf Act on the issue of inclusion of a Hindu member in the Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board. He alleged that the purpose of the amendment in the Waqf Board was to establish control over the Waqf properties. In future, similar treatment can be done with the properties of temples also. Referring to the alleged controversies related to Mahakal temple of Ujjain and matters related to Ram temple, he alleged that the government is avoiding transparency. Efforts are being made to establish control over lands and institutions through various amendments and laws.
