Agartala, July 7 (). Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said that providing all basic civic amenities and essential services to the people is one of the most important priorities of the state government. He also stressed that there will be no compromise on infrastructure development, transparency and expansion of citizen-centric services.
The Chief Minister said that Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) is taking several steps to improve civic amenities by creating modern infrastructure throughout the municipal corporation area. The state government does not want to make any compromise in the development of infrastructure and expansion of citizen services with complete transparency.
Saha said these things while inaugurating the newly constructed ward office of AMC ward number 40 in Baradowali, Agartala on Tuesday.
Referring to the changes in the state capital, the Chief Minister said that Agartala has seen a lot of changes since 2019 due to the planned development projects launched by the present government.
He said that earlier due to the negligence of the government, many reservoirs in the Municipal Corporation area were filled up and road land was taken over, which had created serious problems of sewage management in the entire city. Over the last few years, the present State Government in collaboration with AMC has implemented planned development initiatives to make Agartala a cleaner, more organized and better managed city.
Saha said that 24 reservoirs in different parts of the Municipal Corporation area have been renovated and beautified at a total cost of Rs 137 crore, which has significantly improved the environment and urban character of the city.
He also said that the government has ensured drinking water supply to households in municipal corporation areas where residents were deprived of drinking water for many years.
Saha said that township projects have also been started for the benefit of people living in urban areas. 48 flats have already been allotted under these initiatives, while work on the lighthouse project is going on at a fast pace.
Talking about the housing sector, the Chief Minister said that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the government has targeted to build 79,878 houses at an estimated cost of Rs 1,292 crore. Of these, more than 76,000 houses have already been built, while 4,300 more houses will be provided under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0.
The Chief Minister further said that several projects are being worked on under the Smart City Mission to develop Agartala as a modern, sustainable and technology-based smart city with better civic amenities and better public services.
Saha emphasized that the government’s focus is not limited to just urban infrastructure, but continuous efforts are also being made to create alternative livelihood opportunities for urban residents.
He informed that 6,725 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have been formed under Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission (TULM), while the allocation has been increased under Tripura Urban Employment Program (TUEP) to create more employment opportunities.
He said that various welfare schemes and financial assistance are also being provided to the sanitation workers engaged in maintaining cleanliness in urban local bodies across the state including AMC.
Agartala Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumdar, Deputy Mayor Monica Das Dutta and AMC Commissioner Saju Wahid A along with other senior officials and public representatives were also present at the inauguration programme.
