Amravati, July 12 (IANS). Andhra Pradesh Minister Kollu Ravindra on Sunday consoled the family of Geli Jayalakshmi (50), one of the three people from the state who lost their lives in a boat capsizing incident in Vietnam.
Jayalakshmi’s husband Gelli Kishore was injured and admitted to a hospital in Vietnam.
The minister visited his residence in Vijayawada. He met his children and assured them that the teens were receiving the best medical treatment in Vietnam.
He spoke on phone to family members who had gone to Vietnam to help the teenager and inquired about the medical services being provided there. He said officials have informed him that Jayalakshmi’s mortal remains will reach Vijayawada by Monday evening and will be handed over to the family on Tuesday.
He assured the bereaved family that the government will stand with them in every possible way. Minister Kollu Ravindra also assured them that Minister Nara Lokesh has spoken to the Indian Embassy regarding the incident and the government will provide full cooperation.
Three men from Andhra Pradesh were among 15 Indians killed in a crash during a holiday trip organized by a mobile phone company for the families of its mobile phone distributors in India.
A tourist boat carrying the group crashed near Phu Quoc island in Vietnam.
There were 32 passengers on board, 15 of whom lost their lives.
The two other deceased from Andhra Pradesh have been identified as Mudiyam Sridhar (50), a resident of Cuddapah in Sri Sathya Sai district, and Ravi Teja, a resident of Hindupur.
All Telugu tourists stranded on Phu Quoc island after a boat accident on Saturday have reached Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport safely, the state government said.
They will depart from Hanoi at 7:05 pm (local time) on Vietnam Airlines and are expected to reach Hyderabad by Sunday night.
The Embassy of India, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh Bhavan, New Delhi are providing round-the-clock consular, logistics and repatriation assistance.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday reviewed with officials the assistance being provided to the victims of the Vietnam plane crash.
