New Delhi/Mumbai, July 14 (IANS). Amid the ongoing discussions across the country regarding ethanol blending in petrol, public sector oil company Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has released the results of its extensive quality monitoring campaign. The company on Tuesday said large-scale inspections and tests were conducted to ensure the quality of ethanol blended petrol at its retail outlets across the country. During this period, not a single case of any serious irregularity related to fuel adulteration, pollution or quality was reported.
HPCL said in a statement that between July 7 and July 13, 2026, the company’s field officers conducted surprise inspections at 2,173 petrol pumps across the country to ensure compliance with ethanol blending rules. Additionally, 1,385 routine inspections were also conducted under the Regular Quality Monitoring Program between July 3 and July 13, 2026.
The company said that to further strengthen the monitoring system, its Quality Assurance Cell (Anti-Adulteration Cell) conducted 93 additional surprise inspections. At the same time, 49 fuel samples were also tested with the help of mobile laboratories. In all tests the fuel was found to be in accordance with the prescribed quality standards and no adulteration, contamination or any serious quality related defect was found.
HPCL says that the company adopts a multi-level quality control system to maintain fuel quality across the country. Under this, regular field inspections, surprise checks, laboratory tests and continuous monitoring are done, so that safe and high quality fuel as per the prescribed standards reaches the consumers.
The company reiterated that it aims to provide safe, reliable and high quality fuel to customers through all its retail outlets across the country. The quality monitoring program will continue in this direction, so that consumers’ confidence in the purity and quality of the fuel is maintained.
