Patna, July 21 (IANS). There was a wide discussion on issues related to the education department in the monsoon session of Bihar Assembly on Tuesday. The issues of large number of vacant posts of teachers in Ambedkar residential schools, dress code in government schools and schools without buildings were raised prominently in the House.

During the debate, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary himself intervened and directed the Education Department that the process of filling the vacant posts of teachers in Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Residential Schools will be completed within a month. He said that this work will be regularly monitored by senior officials of the Education Department and it will be completed within the stipulated time.

Former minister and MLA Shyam Rajak, through a question, drew the attention of the House towards the acute shortage of teachers in Ambedkar residential schools. He said that about 62 percent of the posts in these schools are vacant as compared to the sanctioned posts, due to which the education of the students is being affected. He claimed that 3,456 posts are sanctioned in schools, while only 1,305 teachers are working and 2,151 posts are lying vacant.

He also said that music teachers are not appointed in many schools. To this, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Welfare Minister Lakhindra Ram replied that as per departmental records, 1,290 teachers are working in total 2,406 sanctioned posts. He informed that 20 music teachers are also employed and notification for appointment to the remaining vacant posts has been sent to Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). He assured that the process of filling the vacancies will be completed within the stipulated time limit.

However, Shyam Rajak was not satisfied with the minister’s reply. After this, Assembly Speaker Dr. Prem Kumar said that the government is making serious efforts in this direction and the process of filling the vacant posts is going on. As the debate proceeded in the House, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary himself stood up and said that the concern raised by the member was completely justified. He gave clear instructions to the Education Department that special monitoring should be done to complete the restoration process within a month and there should not be any laxity in it.

During this time, the issue of dress code of teachers in government schools was also raised in the House. Information was given by the government that formal dress code is already in force for teachers in government schools of the state. To implement this effectively, necessary instructions have been issued to all district education officers on July 20.

In response to another question related to schools without buildings, Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari said that the intention of the state government is that no school should operate without a building. He informed that a list of schools which do not have buildings, adequate rooms or land available will be prepared within a week and further action will be taken so that infrastructure can be developed for such schools.
