Working women participated in a dialogue organized at the Gurugram office on Monday under the theme of ‘Now Nari Ki Baari’ of ‘Hindustan’s popular voter awareness campaign ‘Let’s do Politics’.

In a dialogue organized at the Gurugram office on Monday under the theme of ‘Now Nari Ki Baari’ of ‘Hindustan’s popular voter awareness campaign ‘Let’s do politics’, he talked about giving full rights to the working women half of the population. He said that there should be participation in numbers from bottom to top so that they do not just have the role of voting in democracy but also participate in the decisions.

About 23 years ago, Latika Thukral, the founder of IIM Gurgaon, Gurugram, started the dialogue by saying that as a working woman, she felt that the problems of migrants coming from outside in this city should be resolved. Thukral said that working women are able to go out only when there is someone to look after their other responsibilities. We not only need drivers, servants and security personnel, we also have to solve their problems. Thukral said that today there is a provision for EWS flats for people of this section, but they are not able to get them. These are lying vacant. He said that the rate of an EWS flat in this city ranges from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. Same is the situation of admission in schools. He said that the second big issue is that the city is not safe at all. After so many years she does not feel safe. There are no street lights in the city. If there are, they do not burn; there is a great lack of public transport. Unless work is done on these fronts, the city will neither be safe for working women nor for others.

Let’s do politics: Women can go out 24 hours without fear

Dr. Geeta Rathi, a legal expert formerly associated with the National Commission for Women and currently associated with Harera, said that women should have a stake in the entire process, why should their role be limited only to voting? They should also be made polling agents at the booth level. What should be in the manifesto? Their opinion and suggestions should be taken in this regard. Not only this, he should also get a place in this committee. Rathi asked that if women are half the population then when will they get their full share? Rathi said that such an environment should be created so that women take their own decisions, whether it is related to marriage or becoming a mother, taking up or leaving a job. He said that the government and public representatives should play their role in this. ‘Right to Choose’ must be ensured.

Presently Leadership Coach Neena Bhattacharjee, who has played the role of HR and consultant in many multinational companies, presented her views by giving many examples in the dialogue. He said that in order for women to participate more in nation building, it is necessary that their safety at the workplace should be guaranteed. He said that if this happens then women will not be afraid to go out. She said that she says from her experience that they face a lot of problems and do not get the required support. They should not be suppressed. For this he said that labor rules should be strictly followed so that they get equal pay. Compliance should be correct. Jewelery designer Monica Kapoor in Gold Sook said that the people of the city do not know where to go with their complaints. There should be a strong system for redressal of complaints, he gave the example of the roundabout being built at Genpact. Said that accidents happen here every day but there is no strong system to stop them. The work has also been going on for a long time.

Let’s do politics: End the race for offices by promoting digital work

Dr. Manisha Arora, gynecologist at Max Gurugram, said that there is a need for empathy instead of sympathy. For the safety of women, it is necessary to bring about a change in mindset. For this, there should be an initiative like Swachh Bharat. Arora also supported having a hostel for working women. He said that work should be done on this so that it is not only habitable but also safe. Arora said that children should be given moral education. Vijeeta Chandola, an interior designer and resident of DLF Phase-1, said that the city’s roads are not safe at all, neither are they friendly for pedestrians, nor for women and cyclists. Chandola said that RWAs are trying very well at their level, the administration and public representatives should also encourage them. Legal expert Sukhum Giran said that public representatives should work strongly for the empowerment of half the population. He should not only get the rights of women but also make arrangements to introduce them to the legal provisions. Along with this, the government machinery should be made very sensitive. Monitor compliance with the rules and guidelines. A better environment is needed for women to become working in large numbers. The responsibility for this lies with the government machinery and the responsibility of monitoring it rests with the public representatives.

Let’s do politics: Singapore should not be just a part, the entire city should develop.
